This page is a plain list of Unicode characters, grouped by what they are: zodiac signs, smileys, special symbols, enclosed numbers and letters, math symbols, hearts, punctuation, units, currencies, arrows, decorative marks, the Greek and Russian alphabets, pinyin and Zhuyin letters, Chinese characters, Japanese kana, box-drawing characters, chess pieces and emoji. The links at the top of the list scroll to a group.
Every group is ordinary text: the characters are part of the page, nothing is generated while you read it, and no input is required.
Characters that look alike are often different code points: ♡ is U+2661 and ♥ is U+2665; the sign in "a - b" is a hyphen-minus (U+002D), while − (U+2212) is the mathematical minus. Copying the wrong one is the usual reason a symbol breaks a build or a spreadsheet formula.
Emoji are sometimes a single code point (😀 is U+1F600) and sometimes a sequence joined with a zero-width joiner, which is why some of them split into pieces in older software.
The characters are plain Unicode text, so they can be pasted into documents, chat messages, code comments and file names. Whether they look right depends on the font: ☭, the chess pieces and the kana need a font that contains them, and emoji are drawn differently on every platform.
Box-drawing characters and unit signs are made for fixed-width use: ㎜ and ─ only line up in a monospaced font.
The groups follow named Unicode blocks and sets: special symbols come from Miscellaneous Symbols (U+2600–U+26FF), math symbols from Mathematical Operators (U+2200–U+22FF), box-drawing characters from Box Drawing (U+2500–U+257F), and currency symbols from Currency Symbols (U+20A0–U+20BF) plus the common signs.
The Chinese characters group lists Chinese numerals, their formal forms, the twelve zodiac animals, the ten heavenly stems, the twelve earthly branches and a set of common words; the Japanese group lists hiragana and katakana, and the pinyin group the tone-marked Latin letters and Zhuyin symbols used for Chinese pronunciation.
